SegoLily
Here I am in moments like all the other moments but this time slowing my doings to do not. Because there is always a thing to worry but right now is a time to smile and nap and look up at the sky to read the shape of those billowing billows of fluff floating by. Yes, there is plenty to cut and wash and straighten and build. But today I gather up the dried purple petals, one by one, and blow them away for giggles.
“Look a birdie.” Yes, that one there. Hop and chirp, cocked feathered head, looking back.
Do you see? The sawyer beetles have emerged with their hard flying black bodies from whatever grub dream held them chewing through lignified layers. The sego lilies have seeded from bloom while the wind tosses the Oryzopsis hair dry, those golden sparkles of sun. It is dusty and hot. So we lay around in our underwear allowing the sweat to layer thick as milk glistens from that tiny chin.
Today we move slow to slurp in the sweetness of this little life, with toes that wiggle and fingers that grab. wrist rolls, thigh rolls, neck rolls and watermelon cheeks that give the most delicious squeal. A smile. Do you see? You are growing as I watch. little by little with every new breath. Together so it is, walking circles around another setting sun, whispering “this is all I have ever needed”.
A flower unfurls, the bees come and go, a butterfly lingers. My head is heavy. My arms are tired. At last, in the slight hushhh of breeze a sego lily drops her seeds.

"This is all I've ever needed" ---- yep . . . that got me. Still recovering from that.
Beautiful! Watermelon cheeks 🍉
